Epson and Software 2000 Renew Collaborative Agreement

OXFORD— October 13, 1997 — It was announced today that SEIKO Epson Corporation (Suwa, Nagano, Japan) and Software 2000 International (Oxford, England) have formally renewed their long-term collaborative development partnership as part of a new two year agreement. The companies have worked together on printer drivers for Windows since the launch of the Epson Stylus Color in Spring 1994 and this ongoing relationship has continued to the present day.

Tony Harris, Technical Director of Software 2000 commented, "The world continues to be astonished by the print quality and reliability that Epson has achieved with their printers. We are proud to have been associated with Epson and to have helped by providing underlying driver technologies. This new agreement between the two companies potentially paves the way for even more exciting future collaborations and we look forward to a continuing relationship between the two companies."

The initial results of this partnership can be seen today throughout the Epson Stylus product range, and particularly in printer models such as the Epson Stylus Color 400/600/800 and the Epson Stylus Photo Printer.

Software 2000 specializes in the development of driver technology for DOS, Windows 3.x, Windows 95/98, Windows NT and OS/2 on behalf of original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) throughout the world. In just seven years, Software 2000 has grown into a multi-million dollar company with offices in Monterey, California and Oxford, England. The company is the largest 3rd party developer of printer drivers in the world.

Hiroshi Takeda, General Manager of Printer Product Design Department of SEIKO Epson Corporation commented, "Thanks to the advanced technologies of Software 2000, we could develop excellent printer drivers for Windows which contribute very much to the present good reputation of our color inkjet printers."

Seiko Epson Corporation started its operation in 1942 as a manufacturer of SEIKO watches. Since then, the company's operations have expanded to encompass the entire range of information-related equipment, including the development, manufacture, and sale of Epson printers, personal computers, electronic devices and components such as semiconductors, liquid crystal displays, and quartz devices.

The Epson group takes at heart its management philosophy of maintaining its worldwide reputation as a reliable and respectable company. Presently, Seiko Epson Corporation has 56 affiliates and representative offices in 29 countries, and the number of employees of the entire group reaches 30,000.
