Software 2000 simplifies
driver installation, and InstallShield integration with Setup 2000™
OXFORD — February, 2000 — Software 2000 today announced
that it has simplified driver installation by extending its device
driver technologies with the Release of Setup 2000™.
Setup 2000 is a highly specified Installation/De-installation tool
specifically designed to enable Printer OEMs to make their products
and enhanced utilities easy to install and use. It simplifies installation
of device drivers under all Windows platforms including Windows 2000
and supports various Microsoft technologies including Plug and Play,
AddPrinter wizard, Add/RemoveProgram wizard, Point and Print amongst
others.
Stealth Mode
The Microsoft Windows Installer, InstallShield®, and other
third party installation programs are supported by Setup 2000 using
Stealth Mode. This feature enables custom OEM installation routines
to utilize Setup 2000 as a background task, silently doing the work
of installing or de-installing printer device drivers. This facility
makes it easy for OEMs to deliver their own custom branded solution
while Setup 2000 silently completes the driver installation tasks "behind
the scenes" on behalf of their installation routines.
Setup 2000 fully supports installation of Software 2000 printer
drivers and ancillary components on Windows 2000, Windows NT 4.0,
and Windows 98/95, and is immediately available with the latest versions
of the Software 2000 development Kits.

Commercially available SETUP programs tend to be focused on installing
applications leaving the problem of driver installation for the OEM
to solve.
