Software 2000 Launches PCL XL Version 3 Support
OXFORD — November 16, 2002 — Software 2000 today announced
the immediate availability of driver development systems supporting
the latest HP printer language version - PCL XL Version 3 (PCL XL
3). This latest revision to the PCL XL (PCL 6) standard provides
better color functionality and greater printing flexibility including
the ability to select different color settings on a per "print
object" basis. In addition, printer driver developers can make
use of the new levels of control that PCL XL 3 gives to achieve better
output on color printing devices.
Software 2000's Component Driver Architecture (CDA) PCL XL toolkits
have been enhanced and extended to allow easy support of PCL XL-based
printer firmware. In addition to support of PCL XL version(s) 2.0
and 2.1, they allow for easy control of PCL XL 3 features including
proprietary PDL features that have been added to a device by the
manufacturer.
The CDA PCL XL toolkits include support for Microsoft Windows XP,
Windows 2000, Windows NT 4.0, Windows Me, Windows 98 and 95 and Windows
3.1. Support for point-and-print on Microsoft Windows Advanced Server,
Windows Cluster Server, Citrix Meta-Frame and UNIX-based samba servers
is also included.
"Software 2000 continues to provide value to its customers
by being fully compliant with the latest printing standards while
adding that little bit extra", said Tony Harris, Chief Technology
Officer. "With this latest announcement, we provide full PCL
XL 3 support and more", he added.
