Software 2000 Makes In-the-Box
JDF Job-Ticketing Easy - MetaDocs™
OXFORD — October 3, 2003 — Software 2000 announces the
addition of MetaDocs™ to its Component Driver Architecture
(CDA) range of driver development toolkits.
It is a growing market requirement for both the communication of
print job requirements to the print house and the interoperability
of the different printing components to be made as seamless as possible.
This is to ease the process from the design of a document, complete
with definition of the printing requirement, through to the printed
finished article. Common standards for interoperability and communication
of device capabilities and print job requirements have been driven
by this requirement and printing vendors are adopting standards such
as CIP4's Job Definition Format (JDF) and PWG's Semantic
Model to make this possible.
MetaDocs provides added-value support for both Semantic Model and
JDF directly within the printer device driver. In addition OEMs can
use alternate XML standards or their own proprietary methodologies
should this be their requirement.
The new MetaDocs feature is designed to allow OEMs to easily add
job ticketing capabilities into their printer drivers. It does so
at the time the user logically "prints" the document
even if the "print" is actually to a file with a job
ticket. This allows easy and straightforward creation of exact print
definitions by the designer creating the print job.
Software 2000 provides the in-box intelligence, within the CDA
toolkits, to enable easy paper handling for different aspects of
page-by-page processing in the driver. The job ticket can even override
the application settings within the application to achieve the correct
ticketed print output.
In addition, Digital Copier vendors can enable the user to save
the MetaDocs tickets of jobs that their Digital Copier and driver
routinely processes. This allows a user to send a job definition
to a print house having performed complete proofing of their document
locally.
OEMs benefit from their Digital Copiers being industry compliant
and can even allow the printing of separately created ticketed jobs
from other sources such as third-party ticketing applications (where
their device can support or map the required functions).
All Component Driver Architecture (CDA) 3.7 toolkits incorporate
MetaDocs as a standard value-add feature. Software 2000 customers
can upgrade their existing CDA drivers and provide their channels
with more competitive devices directly supporting the latest XML-based
standards.
