Software 2000's DeskSets™:
Simplifying the Users Printing Experience
Unique Feature Makes Windows Printing Easy
OXFORD — December 1, 2003 — Software 2000 today announces
the addition of DeskSets – a new feature in Component Driver
Architecture (CDA) 3.7 toolkits which enables users to save and access
pre-defined print settings from the desktop.
Using DeskSets users simply choose from the available printer functions, and
then save them to a named "set" via a desktop icon. Once saved,
users simply right click on the icon to print using the DeskSets setting removing
the need to select functions each time via the printer driver. This mechanism
enables quick and easy access to complex driver features – DeskSets can
contain various sets of functions with any desired complexity. For example,
booklet, duplex, offset jog, n-up and many other features and combinations
of features can be saved to a DeskSet and used time and time again via a single
click.
"DeskSets was produced in direct response to OEM and end-user
customer requests. The key benefit of DeskSets is its ability to
simplify the process of repeatedly selecting the wide array of finishing
functions and other settings available in digital copiers and the
higher end printers of today," said Jon Williams, CDA Product
Marketing Manager of Software 2000.
Software 2000's own studies indicate that printer driver
usability is a major issue with printing on Windows operating systems
today, even with Windows XP. The knowledge required by users to print
anything substantially different from that which is achievable using
default driver settings is significant and a major cause of user
frustration with printing. Software 2000 DeskSets addresses this
issue directly.
DeskSets enable direct access to printer configuration without
the need for the user to navigate through hierarchies of Windows
and menus. Access to the default printing properties is only a mouse
click away from the Windows desktop. Unlike other methods of saving
driver settings, once created, DeskSets are directly accessible from
the Windows desktop.
The DeskSets function is available immediately and is included
in the new Component Driver Architecture (CDA) 3.7 toolkits.
