Software Imaging Announces New Range of Component
Driver Architecture (CDA) Toolkits - CDA 3.7
OXFORD - 10 June 2004 - Software Imaging is pleased to announce
the availability of a new release of its Component Driver Architecture
(CDA) toolkits – CDA 3.7.
Component Driver Architecture (CDA) is Software Imaging’s
solution for developing performance Page Description Language (PDL)
drivers.
CDA toolkits automate and accelerate the production of customized
drivers for a wide range of printing devices.
The new CDA 3.7 toolkits are available immediately, under license,
to printer manufacturers and incorporate the new "single source" sample
drivers as the basis for new driver developments. Single source
drivers allow a printer OEM to create one driver description using
a CDA toolkit, but be able to build multiple drivers versions from
the single source. A digital copier supplier will typically build
PostScript 3, PCL 5c and PCL XL color drivers for Windows XP and
2000, NT 4.0 and Windows Me/9x/3.1 and can now do so from a single
driver development.
Other new features include:
- ShipRight: allows post driver build alteration of device
driver settings. This means that an OEM can enhance the end-user
experience by ensuring
that the device driver exactly matches the device shipped. [see
Press Release]
- DeskSets:
allows users to quickly change driver settings on their desktop
making the job of selecting even complex combinations
of driver settings as easy as possible. [see
Press Release]
- MetaDocs: ensures the additional
support of industry standard job ticketing is easy to implement.
The printer OEM has the choice
of using CIP4’s JDF ticketing standard or the semantic
model. [see Press Release]
"With CDA single source sample drivers, OEM’s
can use the same driver source code across operating systems, dramatically
improving
speed to market for developed drivers", says Jon Williams,
CDA Product Marketing Manager for Software Imaging. "The
new toolkits also support OEM’s existing driver sources, so
that they can also easily take advantage of the other new CDA features
within their
driver solutions".
"Software Imaging looks to provide value to its customers
by being fully compliant with the latest printing standards while
continually
adding much more than that little bit extra", said Tony Harris,
Chief Technology Officer. "With this latest announcement,
we provide a complete OEM driver solution for printer manufacturers
and their sales channels".
The CDA toolkits provide easy driver development for both color
and monochrome printer models and support for the full range of performance
Page Description Languages (PDL). These include PostScript 3,
PostScript
II, PCL 5c, PCL 5e, and PCL XL 3, 2 and 1.x (PCL 6). The toolkits
support for Microsoft Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows NT 4.0,
Windows Me, Windows 98 and 95 and Windows 3.1. Support for point-and-print
installations is provided on Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and
2000, Windows Cluster Servers. In addition developed drivers
support alternate server systems including Novell NetWare, Citrix
Meta-Frame
and Linux/UNIX-based samba v2.2.8 and 3.0.
