Software Imaging Announces Full Support for Microsoft’s Windows XP Professional x64 Edition

Software Imaging demonstrates market advantage for Printer OEMs at Microsoft WinHEC 2005 (booth No. 411)

SEATTLE – 25 April, 2005 - Software Imaging is pleased to announce the availability of printer driver technologies specifically for the latest version of Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 Edition. Using these new technologies, Printer OEMs can be fast to market with printer drivers that are industry-proven, customised for the 64-bit environment, feature-rich and fully Microsoft signable.

Windows XP Professional x64 Edition is designed to take full advantage of the new AMD Athlon 64 and Intel EM64T-enabled Xeon processors. The availability of 64-bit computing technology is predicted to lead to a new wave of innovation in the industry. By utilising the support announced from Software Imaging, OEMs will be able to harness innovation through:

  • Use of printer driver development toolkits with which they are already familiar
  • Use of existing, and previously proven, device driver source code
  • Being first to market with support in their products for the new operating systems

“Our OEM customers know that they can rely on Software Imaging to be ahead of the game with new operating systems,” said Tony Harris, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Software Imaging, commenting on the strategy. “Our customers had the market advantage of being at least 18 months ahead of their competition with the original introduction of Windows 2000. They will benefit from the same advantage with early readiness to support these latest 64-bit Windows operating systems”.

“We’re pleased to have Software Imaging’s early support for Windows XP Professional x64 Edition, designed for the new generation of x64-based processors from our partners,” said Brian Marr, senior product manager at Microsoft Corp. “We expect Software Imaging’s support to help accelerate the adoption of these new technologies in the enterprise and in the home.”

Software Imaging is a long-standing Microsoft development partner and has already supplied printer drivers and printer driver development toolkits to world printing leaders including Hewlett-Packard, Xerox, Ricoh, Canon, Konica Minolta and Epson. The new support is supplied as part of the industry recognized Component Driver Architecture (CDA) and Sorcerer (SSDE) technologies that deliver:

  • Easy customization to meet exact OEM printing requirements
  • Reduced costs for customers through reliability and dependability
  • Integration of customer features and intellectual property into OEM drivers
