Software Imaging Unveils XPSDrv Driver Technologies at Microsoft WinHEC 2006
Sorcerer Development Toolkit Makes it Easy for Device Manufacturers
to Quickly Build High Quality Print Drivers for Microsoft Windows
Vista
Oxford, United Kingdom -
May 23, 2006 - Software Imaging, a market leader in printing and
imaging technologies, is pleased to announce that it has been selected
to participate in the Windows Hardware Showcase in Microsoft's
Pavilion at WinHEC 2006
(May 23 to 25, Seattle USA).
The demonstration, developed using Software Imaging's popular print
driver toolkit technologies, shows the new Microsoft Windows Vista
and XPS format technologies driving end-to-end photo printing. The
showcase demonstrates technology from both Microsoft and Software
Imaging and includes support for:
- Microsoft's new architecture for Windows Vista and
the new XML Paper
Specification (XPS)
portable document format
- Microsoft's new Windows Media Photo
Specification (WMPhoto)
and associated technologies
- Direct photo printing from the Windows
Vista shell
- Color conversion of sRGB and
scRGB using Microsoft's new Windows Color System (WCS)
- Software
Imaging's ColorCore advanced stochastic screening
and high quality/high performance error diffusion halftoning
technologies
- Software Imaging's host-based renderer for XPS
The XPSDrv driver being demonstrated prints to an EPSON R800 and
is based on Software Imaging's Sorcerer Driver Development Kit (DDK),
a multi-platform printer driver development environment supporting
inkjet and color laser devices. Sorcerer automatically creates optimized
XPSDrv drivers from high level driver descriptions, these descriptions
can also be used to build
drivers for additional legacy operating systems such as Windows XP
and Windows 2000. Sorcerer
also supports the new PrintTicket/PrintCapabilities offered by Windows
Vista.
"While we've been demonstrating the performance
and quality of our solutions for Windows Vista and XPS to
customers for over a year, this is the first time we've shown an XPS driver
which has been developed using our Sorcerer driver development framework," said
Jon Williams, Software Imaging's Group Product Manager. "Printer
manufacturers will find it easy to use Sorcerer to build and deliver
native drivers in time for the release of Windows Vista to the market," Williams added.
Tony Harris, Chief Technology Officer for Software Imaging added
"Device manufacturers who need a timely
solution for Windows Vista and XPS can
now choose from our Sorcerer driver development kits (DDKs)
for new driver developments or our stand-alone XPS host
renderer for their existing driver solutions. This demonstration
highlights the wide choice of technologies available from Software
Imaging and proves how easy it is for them to support Microsoft's
new Windows Vista operating system platform using our solutions."
Software Imaging is a Microsoft development partner and has been
actively working with Microsoft
on Windows Vista, the XPS document
format and Microsoft's UNIDRV printer driver architecture.
Software Imaging's Sorcerer DDK is
available for license to device manufacturers, and the core
technology can also be integrated by Software Imaging into custom
drivers.
