Software Imaging Puts Windows Vista™ Developers
on the Fast Track
New PrintMagicXPS™ Software Development Kit Enables Rapid Development of Raster Printer Drivers for Windows Vista™
Oxford, United Kingdom -
September 5, 2006 - Software Imaging is pleased to announce the release
of PrintMagicXPS™,
a software development kit (SDK)
which greatly simplifies the creation of XPSDrv raster printer drivers for Windows
Vista™. PrintMagicXPS gives Software
Imaging's partners early access to a fully-functional XPS renderer
and the ability to immediately develop XPS-based
workflow solutions for raster-based laser and inkjet printing devices.
One of the most important and innovative operating system releases
in a decade, Microsoft's upcoming Windows Vista includes a
completely redesigned print system that is fundamentally different
from the one used in past versions of Windows. Leveraging its experience
as a Microsoft development partner, Software Imaging has been actively
working with Windows Vista and the new XPS document format for more
than a year.
"Our main focus has always been to provide our customers
with the tools and technology they need to stay on top of the rapid
technology changes we see in the print industry," says
Tony Harris, Chief Technology Officer for Software Imaging. "PrintMagicXPS
makes it faster and easier for our customers to develop raster
drivers for Windows Vista, giving them the ability to quickly support
a fundamentally new and important technology platform."
The PrintMagicXPS SDK includes a new XPS render library, designed
for use in Windows Vista XPSDrv drivers and application software
that require high quality rendering of XPS files at fast speeds.
The flexible design of the XPS library makes application software
and printer driver integration easy to implement on both Windows
XP and Windows Vista. In addition to the XPS renderer, the PrintMagicXPS
SDK includes fully-documented source code for a sample application
that uses the PrintMagicXPS renderer to convert XPS files to TIFF.
This sample application provides an easy-to-understand and practical
demonstration of the use of the PrintMagicXPS renderer.
"Achieving early support of new operating systems is
vitally important to our customers' business and we are extremely
excited to be releasing it so far in advance of the commercial
launch of Windows Vista," commented Kevin Jampole, Director
of Sales & Marketing for Software Imaging. "PrintMagicXPS
has already been shipped to a number of our OEM partners and will
provide them with a very real competitive advantage."
Based on a stable and finalized interface, PrintMagicXPS continues
to be updated by Software Imaging as Microsoft moves towards the
release of Windows Vista. Key partners who choose to take part in
Software Imaging's Early Access Program can enjoy a variety
of benefits designed to help them move forward with their own Vista
development activities, including PrintMagicXPS updates and competitive
licensing models.
PrintMagicXPS licenses are available immediately for printer device
manufacturers and software developers. Software Imaging also offers
development services based on PrintMagicXPS.
