Software Imaging Provides Universal Printer Driver for Epson
New Epson Universal Printer Driver developed by Software Imaging supports the Epson AcuLaser range of printers
Oxford, United Kingdom – January 27, 2010 – Software Imaging, a technology solutions provider to the printing and mobile phone industries, has collaborated with Seiko Epson Corp. (“Epson”) of Japan, a leading provider in digital imaging products, to supply a Universal Printer Driver (UPD) that supports their entire range of AcuLaser printers.
The Epson UPD allows users to print to a range of printers using the same single installation of the driver. The user simply selects the appropriate printer model and the driver user interface functionality then changes to match the capabilities of the selected printer model. This feature is particularly useful in a hot-desking environment, where a user may want to print to different printers depending upon where they are working that day.
The UPD is fully featured and supports all the capabilities of the Epson AcuLaser printers. This includes finishing options such as booklet printing, along with watermarking and page overlay features. Users can also save their frequently used driver settings, so that at the time of printing they can simply select the driver configuration that is appropriate for what they are printing, saving them time and consumable wastage.
One of the main features of the UPD is that it is possible to add support for additional printer models while the driver is in the field. A major benefit of auto configuring is that the driver does not need to be submitted for certification every time a new printer model is added. Consolidation to a single UPD means less testing, certifying, installation and support for Epson’s customers.
The UPD driver is based on Software Imaging’s CDA technology, a well established proprietary driver technology for the laser printer market. “Software Imaging has a reputation for providing the best print imaging technology in the world. We are pleased that Epson has recognized this and chosen us to be their supplier on this strategic project” said Kevin Jampole, Director, Sales & Marketing. “Epson was delighted that Software Imaging delivered this project on time and on budget”.
Also included with the driver is support for Software Imaging’s proprietary ManageRight technology. This patented technology allows IT Administrators to restrict areas of driver functionality to specific groups of users, or individual users. For example, some users may be disallowed from printing in color, or forced to print their documents double sided to save on paper.
“We enjoyed working with Software Imaging on this important project. The Universal Printer Driver is an important new software release for Epson and it was critical that we chose a reliable and knowledgeable partner” said Nobuhisa Takabayashi, General Manager of the Inkjet and Laser Printer Planning and Design Department at Seiko Epson. “Software Imaging has a quality solution that helps us provide our customers with easier implementation and installation and lower support costs for their printer drivers.”
The UPD is the most recent collaborative project in a partnership between the two companies which dates back to 1990.
