Bringing IT Management Capabilities to Enterprise Print Drivers

Historically there has not been a solution that allows IT management within an enterprise to customize printer drivers or their end-users' printing experience. ManageRight is a printer driver plug-in that enables just that.

Driver Management Without ManageRight

Different users have varying levels of experience and can therefore have different driver interface and functionality requirements. Meeting this requirement without ManageRight traditionally involved either:

A) Single Standard Driver for All Users
A driver is deployed that features all the controls to support the device. In this situation there is nothing to stop inexperienced users "pressing the wrong button" and causing headaches for their IT department, leading to higher internal support costs.

B) Different Drivers for each User Group
Separate drivers are deployed to different groups of users. One has a simple interface, and the other offers advanced functionality. Managing this multi-driver approach is a costly IT management nightmare.

A Single Driver that Satisfies the Needs of all your Enterprise Customers

With ManageRight a single driver can appear completely different for separate groups of users, at the control of the enterprise IT manager. What is more, changing permissions is a very simple operation for the IT manager to perform. The driver requires no new configuration or updates, as the new permissions are picked up transparently.

Deployable Driver Features

With ManageRight features such as page overlays or watermarks can be made available to users who need them, but not to users who don't. Use of color functions can be restricted to certain users or groups of users to cut the toner costs and put control back into the IT department.

Possible Application – Color Toner Management

Enterprise IT managers may want a color driver to behave differently dependent on the end-user. One group has a driver that defaults to mono to restrict use of color. Another group (possibly in a different enterprise) has the same driver but this defaults to color output. ManageRight is the high-value solution that can make this happen.

Driver Management Tools

Printer manufacturers can also add ManageRight to their own custom Management Applications. This enables control through their own branded interface as well as allowing use of standard Operating System tools. Enterprise IT departments can then perform their own management and roll-out of printing features specific to users or groups of users using the OEM's custom management application. ManageRight is licensed separately for management applications.

Custom Drivers and ManageRight

Many manufacturers also have their own custom driver technologies and Page Description Languages. Because ManageRight is available as a driver plug-in it can be implemented within manufacturers' existing drivers and share the same management as their CDA drivers already utilize. This means driver management can be consistent across different PDLs and operating systems. ManageRight is licensed separately for custom driver integration.

In addition ManageRight is also licensed as part of the CDA driver development toolkit-based products thereby allowing existing CDA licensees to utilize this functionality in their CDA-based drivers.
