Sorcerer FAQ
What is "Sorcerer"?
Sorcerer provides a driver development
system that makes it easy for printer manufacturers to provide
high quality products to their markets quickly. This speedy
development does not compromise the quality of output achievable
(industry leading color quality) nor features offered in the
driver (advanced job-finishing etc.). In addition the developer
can deliver, in one design, drivers for Windows XP 64-bit, XP, 2000, NT4, Me, 98, 95,
Mac OSX, Mac OS9, Linux 2.4 and 2.6 - all with consistent high
quality color output. In addition, Sorcerer 2.7 allows developers
to test drivers that support the latest releases of Microsoft
Windows XP 64-bit edition for x64.
With Microsoft I need to develop a Windows
9x driver and a separate Windows 2000/XP driver. Is this not
a requirement with Sorcerer?
No. A Sorcerer driver description is a
single description for all platforms. If you have specific
requirements for different platforms you may build them into
the driver description, but it is not necessary to do so. In
addition Sorcerer supports Macintosh and Linux platforms from
the same driver source.
We have found that the color support
that the market demands is very time-consuming to achieve,
and greatly delays time-to-market with new head and ink technologies.
Does Sorcerer provide any form of solution?
Yes. AutoEZ-Cal advanced calibration allows
for very simple device calibration. Printer manufacturers quickly
calibrate using AutoEZ-Cal and their preferred profiling tool,
such as Gretag's SpectroScan and accompanying software. A wide
range of media at different intents can be fully supported
within days; thereby ensuring the fastest possible time-to-market.
We want to change our inks to have better
longevity to ultra-violet exposure. How much work is really
required to recalibrate to a media/intent?
Sorcerer customers have the ability to
be uniquely responsive to their customers. AutoEZ-Cal advanced
calibration can easily recalibrate a media/intent in less than
a day. Consistency with any color space is also instantly achieved
through use of industry standard (ICC)
profiles. New paper finishes are also supported just as quickly.
