Sorcerer - Meeting
the Demands of the Raster Laser Marketplace
The Sorcerer printer
driver development tool is particularly suited to the high
performance requirements of the raster laser marketplace. Performance
tuned modules such as spooling, job finishing, stochastic
screening and JBIG compression
combine to deliver maximum throughput, thereby enabling laser
devices to run at the optimum engine speeds.
Raw Performance and Quality
In addition to raw performance, Sorcerer
offers OEM developers
an extensive range of user interface options and printer driver
features. These enable raster laser devices
to be considered for enterprise use as well as the traditional SOHO market. Advanced
controls may be added for facilities such as physical device
options (mail sorters, optional trays etc.) through the use
of action lists and control dependencies.
It is often the case that print quality
and device performance are two areas that have opposing requirements.
However, with Sorcerer, the OEM developer
has the option of employing a range of halftone methods to
meet the exact requirements of the target device. In addition
to traditional angled screens, advanced halftone methods such
as Error Diffusion or Stochastic screening may be enabled.
Software Imaging Stochastic Screening (SISS)
is particularly suited to high-resolution laser devices. An
advanced stochastic screening method, SISS delivers
the quality of Error Diffusion in a fraction of the time. [see

Efficiency Built In
Having generated a high quality print
file, it is vital that the data is passed to the device in
the most efficient manner. The JBIG encoder
delivered within Sorcerer has been tuned using advanced software
techniques. Built to comply with the international JBIG standard,
the Sorcerer implementation offers lossless progressive context
based scanline compression. Advanced optimization
techniques are also combined to provide maximum compression
allowing efficient data transfer to the device.
Custom non-JBIG compression
methods are also supported allowing efficient printing via PCL or
Zx-based controllers.
Combined within a single source development
environment that emits drivers for Windows 95, 98, 98SE, Me, NT4, 2000, XP,
Macintosh OS 9, OS X and Linux (Intel distributions), the Sorcerer
raster laser solution represents the best solution available
within the software imaging industry. When developing a host
based printer driver to support a high page count raster laser
device, OEM developers
no longer need to compromise quality for performance; Sorcerer
simply delivers the best of both.
